ARTISTS RECEPTION, 5 to 9 p.m., Starting Grounds Church, 203 S. Parkway Ave., Battle Ground. Reception includes live music, mochas and cookies. Exhibit features a variety of works by artists from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sundays through Oct. 15.

FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES, provided by Activate Church, at a summer block party, 10 a.m. to noon at Torque Coffee Roasters, 501 Columbia St. Other activities include free haircuts, face painting, balloons and free coffee. jared@activatechurch.org.

ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH is welcoming a new pastor. The Rev. W.R. Harris graduated from Washington State University with a degree in sociology. In 1973, Harris attended St. Thomas the Apostle Seminary in Kenmore and was ordained a priest in 1978. Prior to moving to Vancouver, Harris has been pastor at St. Mark Parish in Shoreline since 2006. St. James is at 218 W. 12th St. 360-693-3052.
