Reports of a plane crash south of Ridgefield fizzled out Monday afternoon when crews were unable to locate a downed aircraft.

A resident called 911 to report seeing a plane bank and go below the treeline around 1:30 p.m. near the 6500 block of Northwest 202nd Circle, according to emergency dispatch logs.

Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy said crews did a through search of the area but were unable to find anything.

Clark County Fire District 6 and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

Sgt. Fred Neiman, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, says well-meaning people often call in low-flying aircraft as possible plane crashes.

“Even though we didn’t find anything today, we don’t want citizens to hesitate (calling 911) if they think something is wrong,” Dawdy said. “That’s why were here, that’s what we do.”

He said the resident did the right thing by calling 911.
