Charlotte beats Central Michigan 78-66

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — DeMario Mayfield scored 15 points off the bench and Denzel Ingram finished with 13 points as Charlotte beat Central Michigan 78-66 Saturday.

Willie Clayton finished with 10 points and nine rebounds to help Charlotte (9-0) win its ninth consecutive game.

After Kyle Randall’s layup cut Central Michigan’s (4-4) deficit to two, 34-32, early in the second half, Charlotte outscored the Chippewas 14-3 over the next five minutes to push the lead to 48-35 with 12:10 left to play. Mayfield and Ingram combined for 10 points during the run.

John Simon’s layup at the 6:25 mark cut Charlotte’s lead to seven, 57-50, but Ivan Benkovic answered with a 3-pointer for the 49ers to push the lead back to double figures. Central Michigan would not get any closer.

Randall scored 15 points to lead Central Michigan while Simon and Olivier Mbaigoto finished with 13 points apiece.
