Lafayette edges Sacred Heart 72-70 on Scott’s 3

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Bryce Scott hit a 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining to give Lafayette a 72-70 victory over Sacred Heart in a nonconference game Sunday.

The Leopards (4-8), who led 34-31 at halftime, overcame a brilliant second half by Shane Gibson of the Pioneers (2-6), who scored 25 points after being held scoreless in the first half. He made 5 of 8 from 3-point range and 10 of 14 shots overall in the final 20 minutes.

Lafayette’s Seth Hinrichs scored 12 of his 15 in the second half, including a 3-pointer for a 69-68 lead with 1:38 left. Louis Montes’ jumper put the Pioneers in front at the 22-second mark.

The Leopards scored 18 of the game’s first 20 points, but Sacred Heart tied the game at 31 after a 22-6 run, including nine points by Steve Glowiak.

Levi Giese’s 3-pointer gave Lafayette its halftime margin.
