NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Malcolm Hawkins scored 20 points and Norfolk State shot 54 percent (27 of 50) from the field in its 83-66 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday.

Pendarvis Williams had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Rob Johnson, who made 7 of 11 shots, finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Hawkins (3), Williams (3), and Johnson (2) combined to make eight of Norfolk State’s nine 3-pointers.

Ryan Cook, who entered the game averaging 17 points for UMBC (2-8), scored 22 points but shot just 7 of 20 from the field — including 0 of 5 from deep. The Retrievers went 0 of 16 from 3-point range in the loss.

Norfolk State (6-5) led by as much as 17, 39-22, in the first half before taking a 42-29 lead into halftime.

UMBC held a 43-37 rebounding edge, behind 14 from Chase Plummer, but could not overcome its shooting woes.
