Intern wins first Grist Mill scholarship

Battle Ground — Charles Fallihee was the star of the show when the Friends of the Cedar Creek Grist Mill held its annual volunteer appreciation dinner at the Mill Creek Pub on Dec. 2. That’s because Fallihee has completed a 120-hour grist mill internship through the culinary department at Clark College. He learned to operate the 1876 mill, led tours, and milled hundreds of pounds of grain. He even created a new maple bacon cornbread that’s been popular with visitors. Fallihee was awarded the first Roy E. Thorp Scholarship, worth $1,500 and named for a friend of the mill who was killed in a car crash in 2011.
