Army’s first-half spurt overwhelms Maine 96-67

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Kyle Wilson scored 18 points, Ella Ellis had 17 and Army closed the first half by outscoring Maine 32-9 en route to a 96-67 victory Friday night.

Larry Toomey and Kyle Toth had 11 points each and Josh Herbeck 10 for the Black Knights (5-5).

Justin Edwards led the Black Bears (3-7) with 18 points.

Army shot 55.9 percent from the field (33 of 59), 48.1 percent on 3-pointers (13 of 27) and 81 percent from the line (17 of 21). Army’s first four baskets were 3-pointers.

Maine trailed only 22-19 with 9:26 left in the first half, but the Black Knights led 33-23 with 6:24 on Kevin Ferguson’s three-point play and pushed it to 42-26 at 4:05 on 3-pointers by Toth, Wilson and Herbeck.

Army led 54-28 at the half, with Maine scoring only five points in the final 7:02.
