A person driving eastbound on Highway 502 near Dollars Corner struck a cow just after 6 p.m. Thursday, killing the animal.

Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy of Clark County Fire & Rescue said two people were in the vehicle. They didn’t appear to have significant injuries and they declined transportation to a hospital. The car, a small import, appeared to be totaled, he said.

The accident occurred along the 3700 block of Northeast 219th Street, between the Dollars Corner and Duluth areas.

The Washington State Patrol also responded and closed one lane of traffic, creating a long backup, Dawdy said.

There were no identifying ear tags on the cow, Dawdy said.

Stock owners “should walk their fence lines before the weather gets bad” to make sure their pastures are secure, Dawdy said.
