Brock Motum scored 27 points and DaVonte Lacy added 11and hit three 3-pointers as Washington State beat Jackson State 52-41 on Thursday.
Washington State (7-4) trailed 34-32 with 12 minutes remaining before the Cougars woke up and went on a 14-0 run. The Tigers would not score again until the 5:15 mark and managed to score only four more points the rest of the way.
“I was happy with our defense tonight, but was not happy with our shooting and our ball handling was very bad, our mind was not in the game,” Washington State coach Ken Bone said.
Jackson State (0-7) scored 21 points off 19 Cougar turnovers, keeping the Tigers competitive throughout most of the game, but it had no answer for the inside play of Motum, leading Washington State by outscoring the Tigers 30-14 in the paint.
