KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — DeMarlo Mayfield scored 14 and E. Victor Nickerson had 11 as Charlotte won 66-52 at Kennesaw State Sunday in a nonconference game.

The 49ers (10-1) shot 64.3 percent (27 of 42) from the floor with nine different players recording points. Mayfield led the charge, hitting 6 of 9 field goals.

6-foot-7 freshman Willie Clayton entered scoring in double figures in four straight games after averaging 6.3 points per game in his first six contests, but managed just two points Sunday for Charlotte.

Andrew Osemhen’s 14 points led Kennesaw State (1-8), which was fresh off a two-week layoff for finals.

Charlotte closed the first half on a 5-0 run to set a 33-all tie at halftime.

The teams remained close, and Myles Hamilton’s layup pulled the Owls within 52-50 with 7:35 left, but Kennesaw State was just 1-for-9 shooting, including 0 for 6 from 3-point range, after that.
