MONACO (AP) — The IAAF says two female athletes whose doping cases emerged at the London Olympics have been suspended by their national federations.
Track and field’s governing body says Syrian 400-meter hurdler Ghfran Almouhamad is banned for six months through Feb. 9.
Almouhamad tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine in a sample taken Aug. 3, two days before she finished eighth in her first-round heat at the Olympics.
The IAAF says Turkish long jumper Karin Mey Melis has been banned for two years until Aug. 7, 2014.
Mey Melis was withdrawn from the Olympic final hours before competing, when details of her failed test at the European Championships in June were confirmed. She tested positive for testosterone after finishing fifth in Helsinki.
