CAMAS — Camas Mayor Scott Higgins tentatively selected a new city administrator at a Monday evening work session.
Nina Regor is set to replace Camas’ long-serving City Administrator Lloyd Halverson at the beginning of the year. Halverson has served in his position for 23 years.
A contract with Regor will become official after Higgins conducts a final background check. After that, Regor is scheduled to start work on Jan. 25, the day on which the city will make plans for the upcoming year.
City officials whittled down the field of applicants from around 70 to four finalists before choosing Regor at the end of last week. She will receive a gross salary of $127,812. The range for the job is $113,000 to $135,000 per year, plus benefits.
Higgins said he was impressed by Regor’s background.
“I believe she will be a good fit … for the future,” Higgins said during the work session.
Regor currently serves as the city manager of Cloverdale, Calif., a community of 8,500 people.
From 1991 to 2003, Regor worked for Gresham, Ore., where she was promoted from budget analyst to assistant city manager. She previously served as the deputy city manager of Spokane Valley from 2003 to 2007.
She has a bachelor’s and master’s in public management and policy from Carnegie Mellon University.
Regor is also familiar with Camas. She grew up in the Clark County area, and her mother was raised in Camas, graduating from Camas High School.
“I’m very excited to become Camas’ next city administrator,” Regor said in a statement. “It’s like coming home.”
Halverson announced his retirement from the city at the beginning of the year. Following that announcement, the city attempted to conduct a search for a new administrator on its own over the summer. The results of that search did not fit the city’s needs, officials said, so they went back to the drawing board.
The city hired the Waldron Group, which specializes in large-scale employment searches, in October to lead the hunt for a new city administrator.
A search committee comprised of three former mayors assisted in the search.
Halverson gave a nod of approval to hiring Regor.
“It feels very satisfying knowing the position will be in good hands,” he said.
