Letter: Factors besides guns led to killings

The Columbian
Published: December 17, 2012, 4:00pm

In light of the most recent tragic events at Clackamas Town Center in Oregon and in Newtown, Conn., there will be renewed calls for gun control. As if taking guns out of the hands of these lunatics will solve all of our problems. What we should be asking ourselves as a society is why do we have so many lunatics?

Could it be factors such as producing video games where the sole intent of the game is to kill as many people as possible?

Could it be that we no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance in public because the reference to God may offend someone?

Could it be the general breakdown of moral fiber in our society?

I suggest that these things and many others are contributing factors.
