Santa Clara defeats Wagner 69-45 for Classic title

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Marc Trasolini scored 23 points and Evan Roquemore added 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Santa Clara to a 69-45 victory against Wagner for the championship of the Cable Car Classic on Saturday night.

Brandon Clark had 13 points for the Broncos (11-2) in a rematch of last year’s title game won by Wagner. Santa Clara won its 16th Classic title, and Trasolini, who made 8 of 13 shots from the field, was tournament MVP.

Marcus Burton had 10 points to lead the Seahawks (5-5). Kenny Ortiz, whose buzzer-beating shot gave Wagner the Classic title last year, had nine points.

The Broncos scored the game’s first eight points and never lost control. They led 33-19 at halftime and limited the Seahawks to 30 percent shooting (15 of 50) and forced 17 turnovers.
