Nebraska holds on to beat Nicholls State 68-59

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Brandon Ubel scored 18 points and Nebraska held on for a 68-59 victory against Nicholls State on Saturday, despite not making a field goal in the final 5:45.

Dylan Talley and David Rivers added 12 points each and Ray Gallegos 10 for the Cornhuskers (9-4), who went 10 for 10 from the free-throw line in the final minute.

Dentrall Thomas had 18 points and Amin Torres 12 for the Colonels (1-9).

Nicholls State scored eight unanswered points to cut the Nebraska lead to 58-54 on T.J. Carpenter’s 3-pointer with 59 seconds left.

The Colonels used a 12-4 run to get within 53-42 on Lachlan Prest’s 3-pointer with 6:17 left and made it a 10-point game on Fred Hunter’s bank shot with 4:56 left that made the score 56-46.

Nicholls State made just three of its first 20 shots and finished the first half 5 of 23. The Colonels shot 59 percent in the second half.
