Western Kentucky holds off North Texas 70-64

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — T.J. Price scored 16 points to help Western Kentucky hold off North Texas’ second-half run for a 70-64 victory on Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference game.

George Fant had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Teeng Akol contributed 13 points and six rebounds for Western Kentucky (10-5, 4-0).

Jordan Williams scored 18 points, Chris Jones had 10 points, and Tony Mitchell grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with seven points for North Texas (5-8, 0-2).

The Hilltoppers held a 37-26 halftime advantage, but the Mean Green closed to 43-41 on Jones’ free throws only 5:23 in. Jones’ layup with 12:26 to go tied it at 46.

The Hilltoppers’ Percy Blade’s two free throws made 64-60 with 1:15 to go, and the Mean Green could not get closer than three points down the stretch.

Western Kentucky was 19 of 26 from the line, North Texas 11 of 15.
