Florida Gulf Coast rallies past Kennesaw St. 68-59

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — Sherwood Brown scored 19 points as Florida Gulf Coast squandered an early lead, then rallied to defeat Kennesaw State 68-59 Monday in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for both teams.

The Owls (1-12), who have lost 11 straight, led most of the second half and were ahead 50-48 with 7:13 left.

The Eagles (9-5) then held Kennesaw State without a field goal while building a 62-53 lead. Delbert Love broke the Owls’ drought with a 3-pointer with 1:33 to go, but Florida Gulf Coast made 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to win.

The Eagles, who have won three of their past four, jumped out to a 21-5 lead at the 11:44 mark.

The Owls (1-12) fought back, scoring the last eight points of the first half to lead 36-35 at the break.

Love’s 16 points led Kennesaw State and Aaron Anderson had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
