HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Jonathan Mills scored 19 points with 11 rebounds and Cedric Jenkins added a career-high 17 points as Southern Mississippi cruised to an 89-59 win over William Carey, its crosstown NAIA opponent, on Monday.
Mills shot 8 of 10 from the field while Jenkins was 5 of 7, hitting 3 of 4 3-pointers. Neil Watson, who added 12 points, had eight of the Golden Eagles’ 23 steals, both marks tying school records. William Carey committed 32 turnovers, leading to 49 Southern Miss points.
Southern Miss (10-4), which has won four of five after a three-game losing streak, extended its home winning streak to 19 games.
The Crusaders stayed close early, and even led 13-9 at the 13:30 mark. Southern Miss then launched a 22-3 run and led 41-24 at the break.
Jeremiah Dunnings scored 14 and Daron Bell 11 for William Carey, which counted the game as an exhibition.
