LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — A Cowlitz Public Utility District lineman struck by a falling utility pole in Longview, Wash., suffered serious injuries.

PUD spokesman Dave Andrew tells The Daily News (http://is.gd/Kz6fnK ) that a PUD crew was replacing an old utility pole Wednesday afternoon near the main gate of a Weyerhaeuser Co. mill site.

The linemen were cutting down segments of the old pole when a 20-foot segment began to topple and hit the unidentified worker in the back, knocking him into the ground. Andrew says the man suffered facial fractures, a broken rib and a fractured vertebra.

He was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital.
