Broekhoff leads Valparaiso past Detroit 78-73

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Ryan Broekhoff scored 26 points and Valparaiso hit 12 3-pointers en route to a 78-73 comeback victory over Detroit on Thursday night.

Broekhoff hit all six of his 3-point attempts and was 8 of 9 overall from the floor as the Crusaders (16-8, 9-3 Horizon) rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit.

Valparaiso battled back to take a 64-62 lead on Van Broekhoff’s 3-pointer with 5:41 left in the game. He added another with 4:08 remaining that broke a 66-all tie and started a 10-3 run that put the Crusaders ahead to stay.

Detroit (12-12, 6-6) got 14 points apiece from Chase Simon, Ray McCallum and Eli Holman. Doug Anderson added 12 and Jason Calliste had 10.

Richie Edwards added 16 points and Kevin Van Wijk had 10 for Valparaiso, which was 12 for 22 beyond the arc and shot 55 percent from the floor.
