Daniels scores 15, VCU beats Northeastern 59-56

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Troy Daniels scored 15 points, going 5 of 12 from 3-point range, and Virginia Commonwealth defeated Northeastern 59-56 on Saturday night.

The Rams (20-5, 11-2 Colonial Athletic Association) forced 15 turnovers, leading to 21 points. Ten of those points came during VCU’s go-ahead spurt to end the first half.

The Rams trailed 23-17 with 5:34 left in the first half, and scored 14 straight over the next 4:57. Daniels made consecutive 3’s to cap it, as VCU went 4 of 5 from the field during the spurt.

The Rams shot 50 percent from the field (11 of 22) in the first half, including 4 of 8 from long range.

Juvonte Reddic added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Rams, who won their ninth straight.

The Huskies (11-12, 7-6) were led by Jonathan lee with 16 points, Quincy Ford with 14 and Joel Smith with 13.
