LAS VEGAS (AP) — Three-time national junior champion John Orozco added the Winter Cup title to his resume, putting together six solid routines Saturday night to win one of the year’s first tune-up events on the road to the London Olympics.

Orozco finished with 180.7 points, outdistancing Stephen Legendre by 5.5. Reigning national champion Danell Leyva finished fourth, two spots ahead of David Sender, the 2008 U.S. champion who was denied an Olympic spot that year because of an injury before trials.

Paul Hamm, the Olympic all-around champion in 2004, didn’t compete after a lackluster first round Thursday denied him a spot among the top 42 in finals.

Orozco finished fifth in the all-around at worlds last year and remains on a steady upward streak since tearing his right Achilles at nationals in 2010.
