WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue has hired Greg Burns as defensive backs coach.

Burns replaces Lou Anarumo, who recently took a job with the Miami Dolphins. Purdue made the announcement on Friday.

Burns spent the previous four seasons as the cornerbacks coach at Arizona State. The Sun Devils led the then-Pac-10 and finished among the nation’s top units in rushing, passing and total defense in 2009.

In his 14 seasons as an assistant coach at the collegiate level, Burns has been a part of nine bowl teams, including four BCS bowls, and won national championships in 2003 and 2004 while secondary coach at USC. He has coached All-America safeties Troy Polamalu (2002) and Darnell Bing (2005).
