HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Demarcus Gatlin scored 17 points, including a game-winning jumper with 4 seconds left to help Sam Houston State rally and beat Southeastern Louisiana 57-55 Saturday night.

Gatlin was 5 of 11 from the field, dished four assists and made 7 of 12 free throws.

Steven Werner put Sam Houston State (8-14, 2-6 Southland Conference) ahead for just the second time during the half, 55-54, with a jumper at the 47-second mark.

Southeastern Louisiana’s Elgin Bailey was fouled on the Lions’ next possession but only converted 1 of 2 free throws, leaving the door open for Gatlin to sink the game-winner.

Southeastern Louisiana (8-13, 2-7) regained possession with 3 seconds left but Jeremy Campbell lost the ball out of bounds before the Lions could get a shot off.

Todd Nelson scored 17 for the Lions who, despite outrebounding the Bearkats 39-30, managed to hit only 16 of 47 shot attempts.
