RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Joshua Jones scored 15 points as Eastern Kentucky defeated Mid-Continent University 59-41 Tuesday night.

Jones scored 11 of his points in the second half, when the Colonels (14-12) scored the first 10 points and began to pull away after leading their NAIA opponent 23-15 at halftime.

The Colonels led just 10-9 with 11:03 remaining in the first half before consecutive 3-pointers by D’Mitri Riggs gave them some breathing room. They shot just 25 percent (7 of 28) for the half, matching their worst-shooting first half this season.

Mid-Continent (6-17), which counted the game as an exhibition, shot 31.8 percent (7 of 22) in the half.

The Colonels made 5 of 7 shots from 3-point range in the second half as they widened their lead despite the Cougars shooting 57.9 percent (11 of 19) in the final 20 minutes.

Eric Stutz added with 11 points and seven rebounds for Eastern Kentucky.
