LONDON (AP) — The Oxford-Cambridge boat race will break with tradition by staging the women’s race on the same day and the same course as the men’s event starting in 2015.

Organizers say there will be complete parity between the two races on the River Thames.

The annual 4 1/2-mile men’s race from Putney to Mortlake attracts a global television audience and is one of the showpiece events on the British sporting calendar. The 1.2-mile women’s event has a much lower profile and is held in nearby Henley.
