CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina junior Dexter Strickland has had surgery to repair a knee injury that will sideline him the rest of the season.

Strickland had reconstructive surgery Thursday on his torn right anterior cruciate ligament as well as damaged meniscus. Strickland was hurt on a drive to the basket in the Tar Heels’ win at Virginia Tech on Jan. 19.

The school says Strickland recovery time has yet to be determined.

Strickland started the first 19 games for the fifth-ranked Tar Heels. He was the team’s top perimeter defender and No. 2 ballhandler while averaging about eight points per game.
