SOLDEU-GRANDVALIRA, Andorra (AP) — A women’s World Cup giant slalom scheduled for Friday has been canceled because of high winds in the Pyrenees mountains of Andorra.
Winds knocked down temporary structures at the base of the 1,300-foot Avet slope during the night, and after a 212-hour delay the organizers finally called the race off.
Race organizers have yet to announce if the race will be rescheduled for a second time. It was originally to be held in Courchevel, France, in December, but was also canceled due to poor weather.
A second giant slalom is scheduled for Saturday, with a slalom to follow on Sunday.
