North Carolina A&T tops South Carolina State 85-55

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Nic Simpson scored 17 points, leading five North Carolina A&T players in double figures in an 85-55 rout of South Carolina State on Saturday.

North Carolina A&T (11-15, 6-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) used an early 14-2 run to lead 16-5 with 5:55 elapsed. It had a 43-29 advantage after shooting 61.5 percent (16 of 26) in the first half, and never led by fewer than 13 points in the second half.

In snapping its three-game losing streak, North Carolina A&T’s bench, led by Simpson, outscored South Carolina State’s reserves 56-18. Marc Hill added 13 points and Adrian Powell had 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

North Carolina A&T starters DaMetrius Upchurch and Jean Louisme scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Brandon Riley scored 16 points to lead South Carolina State (5-19, 0-10), and Devin Joint had 13 off the bench.
