MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon regional drug team has charged two people with carrying $1 million worth of heroin on a bus that left California bound for Washington state.

Working with federal immigration authorities, Medford police say they found Antonio Contreras and Ranee Duarte, both of California, on the bus on Friday with 47 pounds of heroin packed in 20 1-kilo packages.

They face conspiracy to distribute heroin and possession of heroin charges.

Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement Lt. Brett Johnson tells the Medford Mail Tribune (http://bit.ly/ztcccm ) the black-tar heroin was headed north to larger markets.
