Brown leads Holy Cross past American U 59-52

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Devin Brown scored 14 points, including four free throws in the final minute, to help Holy Cross defeat American University 59-52 Saturday.

The Crusaders (11-13, 5-5 Patriot League) led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but the Eagles (16-9, 7-3) closed the gap to 53-49 with 2:22 remaining.

Brown got his own rebound after missing a free throw with 1:02 left and drew another foul after a Holy Cross timeout. This time he didn’t miss, making both for a 55-49 lead.

Brown was fouled again with 37 seconds left after getting a rebound at the defensive end and sank both to make it 57-49.

Dave Dudzinski added 10 points for the Crusaders.

Charles Hinkle scored 14 points to lead American, which led 13-5 early in the game before Holy Cross closed the first half with a 10-0 run to take a 28-20 lead into the break.
