MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Law enforcement officers in Medford, Ore., say a chase that reached speeds as high as 80 mph ended when the driver crashed into some landscaping while trying to avoid two spike strips.

The Mail Tribune says a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy fired two shots at the SUV’s spinning right rear tire Monday to make sure the vehicle was disabled. Medford police say the driver scuffled with officers and was zapped twice with a stun gun before he was subdued. He was treated for minor injuries.

The newspaper says 27-year-old Jeremy Ray Rasmussen was booked into jail, accused of violating the conditions of his parole on previous convictions for first-degree sexual abuse and eluding police. He’d been out of the county work release center less than a week.

The case began with a report of a white SUV driving over landscaping and through fences.
