PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Hector Noesi was used mainly out of the bullpen during his time with the Yankees but figures prominently in the Seattle Mariners’ plans for its starting rotation.

Noesi will be given the opportunity during spring training to catch on as the third or fourth starter for Seattle.

Noesi, who was acquired by the Mariners in the trade that sent starter Michael Pineda to the Yankees, threw his first bullpen session of the spring in Peoria, Ariz., on Monday.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge was pleased with what he saw.
