SANDY, Ore. (AP) — The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a 62-year-old Sandy, Ore., man is dead after his pistol fired accidentally as he was climbing over a barbed wire fence.

Sgt. James Rhodes said Monday that Robert Hoelting was walking last Friday near his home in a remote, wooded area of the county.

Deputies investigated the death. The state medical examiner says Hoelting died of an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.

Sandy is southeast of Portland.
