EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Congressman Rick Larsen says the Navy plans to replace three Everett-based frigates with new or modified destroyers over the next seven years.

Larsen says the decision announced Tuesday secures the future of Naval Station Everett. It will be the home port for five destroyers in addition to an aircraft carrier, resulting in a 7 percent increase in personnel — from about 4,000 to more than 4,200.

The Navy plans to decommission the USS Ford in 2014, the USS Rodney M. Davis in 2016 and the USS Ingraham in 2019.
