A team of players from Southwest Washington will skate for the Oregon High School Hockey League championship at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver.
One of four teams in the league, Vancouver is unbeaten this season. It will face Metro, a team of players from Portland’s west side high schools, for the title.
Vancouver went 9-0-3 in league play, then beat team Pacific, 6-4, on Sunday in one semifinal match.
Players this season for the Vancouver team (school listed in parentheses) include: Logan Anderson (Columbia River), Jon Anderson (Union), goalie Taylor Baines (Prairie), Corey Bishop (Prairie), Jacob Bishop (Prairie), Dalton Carter (Kalama), Logan Chavez (Mountain View), Caleb Collins (Washougal), Gage Drews-Newman (Columbia River), David Hurst (Skyview), Jacob Morgan (Skyview), Forrest Schiffman (Clark College/Skyview), and the late Justin Boyce (Prairie).
In addition to league games, the Vancouver team went 4-2 at a high school tournament played in December in the Tri-Cities.
This is the fourth season this team has played in the Oregon High School Hockey League. The other three teams represent schools from in and around Portland. In 2008-09 and 2009-10, the Vancouver team went a combined 2-26. Eight current players were on the 2009-10 team.
Last season, Vancouver went 5-5-4 and lost in the championship game.
Babe Ruth sign-up is Saturday
Hazel Dell Metro Babe Ruth will hold an in-person registration opportunity from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The event will be held at the league’s clubhouse at the Columbia River High School baseball field.
This league serves players ages 13-15 who live in Vancouver west of I-205, and covers all of Clark County north of Padden Parkway. In addition to Babe Ruth divisions for ages 13, and 14-15, HDM offers baseball on 70-foot basepaths for players who are age 12.
To sign up, each player’s birth certificate is required, and a parent/guardian must be present to sign a concussion release form.

Bowl for the Cure
The 10th-annual Clark County Bowl for the Cure will be held on Sunday at Allen’s Crosley Lanes in Vancouver.
Bowling begins at 2 p.m., and funds raised will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. There is a $20 entry fee to bowl three games. That fee will be waived for those who collect at least $50 in donations.
The event, organized by the Clark County United States Bowling Congress chapter, is open to all ages. Prizes will be given to the top three fund raisers.

Run for Presidents’ Day
For the second year in a row, a series of runs will be held in Vancouver on the President’s Day holiday.
The President’s Day Run in Cascade Park will offer runners and walkers the chance to race over several distances on a mostly-flat course.
The Clark County Running Club event begins at 9:45 a.m. with a quarter-mile race for kids. The races start at the intersection of McGillivray Boulevard and Bella Vista Road.
The main race offers distances of 5, 10 or 15 kilometers. There will be care and entertainment for kids during the races.
Like all CCRC races, entry costs $3 but is free for CCRC members.

Shamrock Run deadline
Today is the early-entry deadline for the Portland Shamrock Run, which takes place on March 18.
Entry prices for the event increase by $5 on Feb. 15. The race offers several distance options, including a walk.

Elite runner entering Vancouver event
Susan Loken, a four-time winner of the U.S. Masters Marathon Championships, plans to participate in the 2012 Girlfriends Half Marathon in Vancouver, according to race organizer Sherri McMillan.
