OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Legislature is pushing a plan that would require the governor’s office to produce six-year budget outlooks.
House lawmakers approved a measure Tuesday by a 97-1 margin. Republican Rep. Gary Alexander said it makes good fiscal sense for the Legislature to understand how decisions made now might impact the budget in the future.
Six-year outlooks had been common practice in the past, but the governor’s office had not included those projections in some recent years.
Democratic Rep. Mary Helen Roberts of Edmonds was the lone “no” vote, though she did not voice her opposition in floor debate. The measure now goes to the Senate for consideration.
