LONDON (AP) — A member of the House of Lords has walked 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometers) from Greece to promote peace during the Olympic Games.
Lord Michael Bates has returned to the U.K. and will trek the final steps Wednesday to Britain’s seat of government at Westminster. He’s been walking since Good Friday of last year in hopes of persuading all nations to cease hostilities during the London Olympic games — just as they did in ancient times.
Bates told The Associated Press he survived the 10 months of walking with support from British consulates in 15 countries on his meandering route to London.
The 2012 Summer Olympics will take place from July 27 to Aug. 12.
