RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes say they expect forward Tuomo Ruutu to miss three weeks with an unspecified upper body injury.

The team on Wednesday called up forward Jerome Samson from its AHL affiliate in Charlotte on an emergency basis to replace Ruutu.

Ruutu was injured in the first period of a 5-3 victory at Montreal on Monday night and did not return. He has a team-best 17 goals and is tied for second on the team with 30 points.

Samson was recalled for the third time this season.
