Hampton beats Maryland-Eastern Shore 82-62

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Darrion Pellum scored 21 of his 33 points in the first half as Hampton cruised past Maryland-Eastern Shore 82-62 on Wednesday night to sweep the season series.

Pellum, who scored 13 points in the game’s first nine minutes, was 11 of 21 from the field and 3 of 9 from 3-point range. He also recorded five rebounds and six steals.

Pellum’s steal and fastbreak dunk gave Hampton a 62-44 lead with 8:30 left.

Hampton (9-16, 5-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) shot 53.6 percent (30 of 56) from the field compared to just 32.8 percent (21 of 64) for the Hawks.

Despite losing the rebounding battle 41-33, Hampton forced 20 Maryland-Eastern Shore (6-19, 3-9) turnovers and dished out 17 team assists.

Danny Agbelese recorded three blocks for Hampton, which finished with seven as a team.

Hillary Haley led Maryland-Eastern Shore with 14 points and Tyler Hines added 10 and 10 rebounds.
