Regarding the Feb. 6 political cartoon showing Barrack Obama flushing money down the toilet, here’s a quote from Jon Perr’s blog “Crooks and Liars”: “‘Reagan,’ Vice President Dick Cheney famously declared in 2002, ‘proved deficits don’t matter.’ Unless, that is, a Democrat is in the White House. After all, while Ronald Reagan tripled the national debt and George W. Bush doubled it again, each Republican was rewarded with a second term in office. But as the Gallup polling data show, concern over the federal deficit hasn’t been this high since Democratic budget balancer Bill Clinton was in office. All of which suggest the Republicans’ born-again disdain for deficits ranks among the greatest — and most successful — political double-standards in recent memory.”
George Bush’s eight years in office increased the national debt by $4 trillion and was climaxed by the tanking economy. Bush signed the $700 billion TARP program into law. Interest on that $4 trillion national debt as well as Obama’s inability to end the Bush tax cuts have contributed to budget bleeding, and are not under Obama’s direct control.
There are many people in Washington, D.C. shoving money down that toilet, and it is nothing new. For every finger they point at Obama, the Republicans have three pointing back at themselves.
