FERNDALE, Wash. (AP) — Crews were responding to a storage unit on fire at the BP Cherry Point refinery near Ferndale.

The Bellingham Herald reported that a plume of heavy black smoke was visible for several miles Friday afternoon. The refinery has its own fire crews but mutual aid was requested from other agencies. There have been no reports of injuries.

The fire is reportedly in a tower on the south side of the refinery, which is the largest in the state and can produce up to 230,000 barrels of fuel a day.
