Economic development officials have released a new strategy to double exports from the Portland-Vancouver metro area over the next five years.

In cooperation with the Brookings Institution, a task force of regional economic development leaders, including Greater Portland Inc., conducted a market assessment, survey and company interviews to create the new “Greater Portland Export Plan.” The plan seeks to help local companies win access to global markets and to grow local jobs.

“It is estimated that every additional $1 billion in export growth translates into 5,400 new jobs, so if we grow exports, we grow jobs,” Sean Robbins, CEO of Greater Portland Inc., said.
