Jones’ 22 points lead E Kentucky past IPFW 78-69

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Jaron Jones scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 78-69 win over IPFW on Saturday night.

Joshua Jones finished with 17 points for the Colonels (15-14), who improved to 6-0 in home nonconference games this season. D’Mitri Riggs had 12 points and six assists in the Bracket Busters matchup, and the first meeting between the schools since 2002.

Jaron Jones, who went 8 of 14 from the floor, reached the 20-point plateau for the third consecutive game.

Eastern Kentucky trailed 30-25 late in the first half, but surged into halftime with an 11-3 run to claim the lead. The Colonels continued their momentum in the opening portion of the second half, scoring nine unanswered points, capped by Riggs’ 3-pointer to take a 53-39 advantage.

Frank Gaines was the only IPFW (10-17) player to score in double figures, matching his career-high with 30 points.
