Saddler leads Delaware past Hampton 68-64

NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Devon Saddler scored 26 points and scored six of Delaware’s final eight points as the Blue Hens held off Hampton 68-64 on Saturday to win their sixth straight game.

Jamelle Hagins just missed a double-double with nine points and 15 rebounds for Delaware (15-12) in the Bracket Busters game.

After Christopher Tolson’s 3-pointer trimmed the Blue Hens’ lead to 60-59, Saddler hit two free throws with 2:35 remaining. The Pirates’ David Bruce made one of his two foul shots, then Saddler’s jumper pushed the lead back to four.

Bruce’s three-point play got Hampton (9-17) back within a point, but the Pirates made only one free throw in the final 1:03 while Delaware’s Jarvis Threatt, who finished with 14 points, and Saddler hit two foul shots apiece.

Darrion Pellum scored 18 points on 6-of-20 shooting and Tolson had 15 to lead Hampton, which has lost three of its last four.
