San Jose State defeats Sacramento State 79-67

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Wil Carter and James Kinney scored 19 points apiece, and San Jose State rode two second-half runs to a 79-67 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday night.

Keith Shamburger added 15 points and eight assists for the Spartans (9-17), who shot 53 percent from the floor, including 8 of 18 on 3-pointers.

Jackson Carbajal scored a career-high 24 to lead the Hornets (9-17), and John Dickson had 15 off the bench.

Sacramento State led 37-31 at halftime, and after a Joe Eberhard jumper with 16:05 to play, the Hornets were up 46-34. San Jose State responded with a 16-2 run to take the lead. A few minutes later, the Spartans went on a 10-0 run, including two Shamburger 3-pointers, to go ahead 69-59 with 5:48 left. Sacramento State got no closer than six the rest of the way.

The BracketBusters matchup was the first meeting between the teams since 2003.
