Strong leads Texas Southern past Pine Bluff 84-65

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Omar Strong hit eight 3-pointers and scored 32 points as Texas Southern defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 84-65 Saturday night.

Strong was 8 of 15 from the 3-point line for the Tigers (10-15, 9-4 Southwestern Athletic), who won their third straight game. Madarious Gibbs added 13 points, and Aaron Clayborn and Fred Sturdivant each had 11.

Lazabian Jackson led Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-21, 5-9) with 21 points and five assists. Savalace Townsend added 13 points and Mitchell Anderson had 10.

Texas Southern trailed 33-29 with 5:44 left in the first half but closed the period on a 16-1 run. Strong had two 3-pointers during that stretch as the Tigers took a 45-34 lead into the break.

The Golden Lions never got within single digits in the second half as the Tigers stretched the lead to as many as 25 points.
