PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Each winter a group of Portland, Ore., 20-somethings get together for a crazy cycling competition they call the “Ben Hurt Chariot Wars.”

Competitors use old bikes and makeshift chariots in a free-for-all that looks like a scene out of a “Max Max” movie. They slam their chariots against each other and swing away at each other with padded clubs.

This year’s Chariot Wars occurred over the weekend. It’s the headline event of three days of bike mayhem called “Mini-Bike Winter.”

Among the other events is bike-bowling, in which participants ride into a cluster of plastic highway construction drums and try to knock them all over.
