JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Hanley Ramirez is taking groundballs at third base, signaling he’s willing to give his new position a try with the Miami Marlins.

The All-Star shortstop was fielding practice grounders and lobbing throws to first.

The workout Tuesday with a couple of other players came as pitchers and catchers reported for the start of spring training. Ramirez arrived early because he’s coming off left shoulder surgery.

The Marlins wanted to move Ramirez to third to make room for All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes, who signed a $106 million, six-year deal with Miami in December. Last week, new manager Ozzie Guillen said he didn’t think Ramirez had embraced the move.
