MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Former Mississippi defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix will join Middle Tennessee State as co-coordinator.

Nix was defensive coordinator at Ole Miss from 2008-11 and at South Carolina from 2005-07. He also was defensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi, where he played in college.

MTSU Coach Rick Stockstill also said on Tuesday that Buster Faulkner has been promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Faulkner handled play calling for the final seven games last season after Willie Simmons resigned.

Fourth-year coach Steve Ellis will be co-defensive coordinator with Nix and cornerbacks coach.
